As the AI Engineering course is approaching the final weeks I noticed that the code started to break. Trivial issues but still gives a headache debugging it. Also the course started moving towards cloud based AI models that I prefer not to deal with, hence the reason why I went to great lengths to run and optimize my local AI’s in my machine. The prolem is that the large dataset is practical for big LLMs in the cloud and not on my local small LLMs. Basically, I could not execute the codes so I just study them instead and move quick to the next lab exercises.
On the other hand, there is a sudden pace of events in the tech industry. For one, OpenAI claimed that the world is now in the AI Singularity. If one will analyze the current exponential growth of AI these days, it may well be true. The next one I didn’t expect to be early but Google recently announced a seemingly hard date for Quantum Computers and the main problem in this case is breaking of the RSA. I was actually thinkig that the Q-Day is still many years in the future but to see Google announced it, looks like they have an idea already of an upcoming capable Quantum Computer that will come soon and become a threat to the legacy RSA algorithm. Then there is also the announcement for my country that the first rocket launch will happen next year but the location is hinting me of a different reasons, there is the planned AI Data Center which is drawing flak from farmers and the left. Then much earlier, a robotics engineering program that I didn’t expect to exist in my country but in the south and to be honest, in all the fields under the wider field of Electrical Engineering, the one that really matches my needs for intelligent defense systems is actually robotics engineering.
While all of these suddenly came out of nowhere, a business idea was born just last night with my martial arts master, one from oil and gas retail and one from telecommunications services.
Back in the Electrical Engineering (power systems focus, traditional classroom, algebra based Physics which is bad) program that I left due to it being too much traditional and has lagged much behind due to the growth of AI, I don’t really need the power systems focus but the shallow general EE courses serves my foundation to move and self study robotics. The next plan is to shift to Computer Engineering because it is much aligned with AI and the upcoming Physical AI (purely asyncronous online, calculus based Physics, ABET accredited) and half of the program will be credited from my Computer Science degree so I will only need to study half (Electrical Engineering part) of it and is much better because of its mixed signal sensor courses (analog and digital), digital focused control systems, and more concentration to electronics and digital communications. These are much modern and more suited for intelligent defense systems such as robotics. I was already prepared for this new program in Computer Engineering but then I learned about the existence of a Robotics Engineering in the south (I’m in the north) for an undergraduate engineering program and then a masters degree on robotics is also in the same major island.
So given the problem with the microplastics floating in the air in Metro Manila and that some of these microplastics are now carrying toxic metals like mercury and lead, going back to my previous university where I took my MS in Computer Science for the MSEE and PhD EEE is not healthy anymore. Hence, the idea of the BS Robotics Engineering and an MS Robotics in the south which is also majoriy Muslim and is not far from the business venture on oil and gas retail and telecommunications services in the central island, this whole idea really attracted me.
I’m still thinking if I will push with the Computer Engineering program (online and ABET) or wait a bit longer and push for the Robotics Engineering program (traditional classroom, non-ABET) in south. Maybe a more balanced one is Computer Engineering and then MS Robotics. Let see.
A lot of things suddenly popped out and started moving fast.
