Rates of Change, Evaluation of Solid State Chemistry, and Martial Arts Training Plan

I continued on the MIT- OCW course Single Variable Calculus today and went ahead to watch the video lecture on Rates of Change. An emphasis was made on the difference between the average rate of change and the instantaenous rate of change and where the latter is actually the limiting value of the former or as we know it, the derivative. Applications of the derivate in terms of current based from the limiting rate of change for charge per unit of time, derivative of distance with respect to time which we call speed. Non-time based rates of change was also shown such as the temperature per distance for gradient, and even on measurement sensitivity say for GPS and radars.

There is a probable mistake on the lecture or maybe a vague explanation and no one caught it during the lecture so no one asked about it. The function h is defined as \( h=80 - 5t^2 \) and the derivative of the first term is 0 while the derivative of the second term is supposed to be \( \frac{d}{dt} 5t^2 = 5(2t) = 10t\) but the explanation didn’t account for the factors 5 and 2 and only pointed out the derivative using the difference quotient for powers.

Next time will be doing the problem set for the topic Rates of Change under Single Variable Calculus.

I was about to review my previous learning from MIT-OCW course on general chemical science but then I realized that the chemistry in the Quantum Engineering Bridging Program that Jarvis and I created for my self-study in the span of 4 years as preparation for entry into a Quantum Engineering MS in the future does not have a general chemistry course in it but an advanced one, Solid State Chemistry. But then I already finished a general chemistry for engineers course back at the local BSEE program during the freshman year back in 2024 and the needed knowledge I already have. If a review is needed then I can make na on demand review along the way while at the Solid State Chemistry.

Also evaluated the relationship of Solid State Chemistry with energetic materials, explosives.

My martial arts master messaged me today checking how I am and because of my busy schedule doing work, self-study, physical fitness, tacticals, combatives, political work, and many others, we can only do a 1 day all combat or sparring martial arts training every month. I mentioned that we need to change the approach and freeze new knowledge and instead focus on the combat appplications of all that was taught to me. Before, the setup of the training is an iteration of quick theory and then application in the likes of drills but with stress testing always, more like short span sparring. The plan now is a full combat flow without theory anymore. It will be a long sparring session with feedback on what needs to be corrected.

This is also in alignment with the original plan from 2024 where my master wants me to face a 10 man fight underground without rules, a mix of empty hand and weapons, all goes in. All consent and could result in a fatal injury. Only then if one survives and passes this 10 man brutal fight, he will be awarded with a black belt. An acknowledgement of skill and acceptance into the circle of the elite fighters of this underground fighting system. So I guess it is time to step up the training. Some of the students during this test ends up in hospitals. Some with a knife shoved on their tricep with the tip of the blade exiting the bicep. Maybe I’ll undergo that underground fight in 2027.

This site will hold short thoughts, daily observations, technical discoveries, project progress, and records that do not require a full article.
