Integrated Explosive Run on Combat Course

Back from last year on one of the tactical course I attended, the training focused on a variety of tactical skills development using rifles, carbine, and pistol. It includes transition from carbine to pistol and pistol to carbine, different kinds of reloads, taking advantage of cover, use of high ready and low ready postures, pistol and rifle malfuntion management, deception, alternating cover fire, multiple targets, funnel approach, quick draw, reaction drills, and many more. Apart from the heat in the venue because it is na open range area situated on a natural forest and mountain features, the trainings were given stress factor and that includes doing pushs ups burpees, carrying a sandbag while running and sprinting before engaging targets. Such training highlights the need for short burst explosive force and sprints.

In one ocassion, I was partnered with a young airforce soldier and after a 200 meter run carrying a sandbag, the two man partner had to race on uneven terrain sprinting and then coming back to shoot targets.

The young man was in blue battle dress uniform trousers and a civilian shirt for his top and was wearing the Gibson combat tropical boots while I was wearing a tactical pants and a light Asiaon combat boots with a tactical long sleeve top. The airforce soldier was fast and was ahead of me. I was surprised as to how he managed to run that fast despite the uneven terrain where the ground has sharp rock formations and sharp boulders buried in the soil.

Turns out based from my observation, the airforce soldier was sprinting in an unorthodox way. His legs were pushing away from the back and the outer side both on left and right with big strides which actually gives him stability while covering the short distance faster without regards to the sharp rocks and boulders beneath the ground. I was not trained for that kind of run and I was being careful as I don’t want to trip and injure myself. After our turn, another group tripped ending on a finger injury on one of the airforce soldiers.

It was funny because the airforce group described how it looked like, with me being likened to cop chasing their fellow airforce soldier like a criminal and they were laughing so hard.

Back in the PMC training, a similar stress method was used where we were pushed into running back and forth in full battle gear following the sequences of high intensity calisthenics including crossing above head level mud waters.

The airforce guys were using their government issued rifle M16A1. I and others were using a variant of an M4 provided from the training center.

I got sick already first day, an allergy that felt like a flu and add to it that I forgot to bring my ear protection, so my ears were hurting already from the gunshoots for days.
