There is also this problem on laboratory. Some trivial labs equipment and tool can be purchased such as multimeter, sensors, oscilloscopes. We can even use a simulator for these if needed. The problem is on the quantum physics because of the exotic setup and the unavailability of such equipment. That means part of the laboratory learning in this aspect is to build one. Not a trivial feat but also gives legitimacy on my self study program on Quantum Engineering.
PH government is pondering about banning social media platforms such as Facebook due to the school shooting incidents this year. People don’t know that Facebook although is free, is also using people’s information, post, and life pattern to generate revenue from advertising companies. There is no free lunch and the contents given by people to Facebook via their accounts they don’t own it and that is already a disclaimer that Facebook owns everything. The main problem in PH in terms of social media is that people here don’t really care about privacy that is why Filipinos love Facebook.
But then can the PH government really ban social media? People can circumvent government censorship of social media by using VPN pass thru. Even then, there are ways to host social media platforms that are decentralized such as the communities in Fediverse. Even in the more sophisticated social media platform and more specifically metaverse such as SecondLife, there is no such thing as privacy.
In the digital world, the cyberspace, the higher forms of privacy controls lies outside content that are persisted. Anything that is persisted like a chat, a photo, a video or audio recording sent, has the risk of leaking out. If one wants a bit more stringent ways on privacy in communicating in social media, the best bet is an unrecorded video or audio call because these are typically not persisted. Of course there is the risk of third party snooping but this can be mitigated with secure end to end encryption such as the one’s used in bank, financial, and payment sites involving secure HTTP, or more appropriately with the use of a VPN.
For violent contents and subversive grooming online, the best bet is to restrict social media access to minors and continuous intelligence monitoring of these communities.
Basically, there is no effective way of banning social media these days.
