I have renewed my IEEE membership for 2027. The membership cost has doubled because my student status has expired already and I am elevated back to professional status. Then went back to the society on control systems and added a new one for the electron devices which is IEEE’s org that is closer to condensed matter physics. A large chunk of the cost comes from the IEEE membership, GoogleApps@IEEE, and the devaluation of the Philippine Peso against the US Dollar. GoogleApps@IEEE was free for many years back but then for 2027 IEEE has to charge members for it because Google started charging IEEE for it a few years back. Basically it is an IEEE email using the Gmail platform with limited cloud storage capacity for the Drive. Today although Google has started charging IEEE for it and in effect IEEE charged the members if they opt for this service, the upside is that the email, cloud storage, and photos is now allocated 200GB which I really need plus they have provided advanced AI tools.
Was thinking if I will opt for society membership in nuclear and plasma sciences but I decided not to because the knowledge is tightly controlled, probably to keep knowledge away or restricted from US peer adversarial access.
On the other hand, I joined the Quantum Technical Community and their Quantum Engineering community within IEEE Collabratec. The Quantum Technical Community is under the IEEE Computer Society which I was a member a long time ago but not anymore.
Visited the TechRxiv website and they still migrating to their new platform. Future paper preprint will be submitted to TechRxiv.
